What is Morning Meeting?

Each day at Pickering College includes a time to gather as a community in Morning Meeting. Staff, teachers and every student participate in this time.

Morning Meeting serves a very practical purpose: attendance is taken and announcements are made, but the value of this Pickering College tradition goes much deeper. Morning Meeting sets the tone for the day – it’s about community, character development, social justice and leadership.

Morning Meeting begins in silence to allow time for self-reflection and centering before the busy school day begins. Afterwards, staff and students lead discussions about accomplishments, collective challenges and responsibilities. Readings are done and stories are shared. Together we explore what service to one another and to the wider world means. We debate the essence of integrity and compassion, we ask big questions and students – from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 – learn that they are all part of something important and innovative. They come to see the central role they each play and understand how important they are to the Pickering College family. Sometimes Morning Meeting is quiet and thought provoking. Other times it is inspiring and the soul of our school and aspirations soar. To learn more about this valued Pickering College tradition visit www.pickeringcollege.on.ca.
